Position Overview:
We seek a highly motivated, detail-oriented Virtual Legislative Research Specialist to join our team. In this remote role, you will research legislative issues comprehensively, analyze policies, and provide critical insights to support decision-making processes. Your expertise will be essential in helping our organization navigate complex legislative landscapes and advocate for informed policy positions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legislative Research:
- Conduct in-depth research on proposed legislation, legislative trends, and regulatory changes at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Gather and analyze data from various sources, including legislative databases, government reports, and policy briefs.
- Prepare detailed summaries and reports on legislative developments, including potential impacts on the organization and its stakeholders.
- Policy Analysis:
- Evaluate and interpret the implications of proposed and enacted legislation on the organization’s interests and objectives.
- Assess the potential effects of policy changes on various sectors and provide recommendations for strategic responses.
- Monitor and analyze policy trends to identify emerging issues and opportunities.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, regulatory, and advocacy groups, to ensure a coordinated approach to legislative matters.
- Communicate research findings and policy analyses to stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and briefings.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including legislators, regulatory agencies, and advocacy organizations, to gather insights and build relationships.
- Legislative Tracking:
- Maintain and update a comprehensive tracking system for legislative activities, including bill statuses, committee hearings, and floor votes.
- Monitor legislative calendars and deadlines to ensure timely and accurate reporting of relevant developments.
- Provide timely alerts and updates on critical legislative issues impacting the organization.
- Report Preparation:
- Draft and edit high-quality research reports, policy briefs, and legislative summaries.
- Ensure all reports and documents are clear, concise, and accessible to a diverse audience.
- Develop and maintain a repository of research materials and documentation for future reference.
- Strategic Support:
- Assist in the development of strategic recommendations based on legislative and policy research.
- Contribute to creating advocacy strategies and action plans in response to legislative changes.
- Provide analytical support for legislative proposals and initiatives under consideration by the organization.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in legislative research, policy analysis, or a related role.
- Proven track record of conducting comprehensive research and producing high-quality reports.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex legislative and policy information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Proficiency in legislative tracking tools, research databases, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
