Job Overview
We seek an experienced and creative Online Curriculum Designer to join our growing team. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of online education, enabling learners from around the globe to access high-quality, engaging, and compelling learning experiences. As a Curriculum Designer, you will work closely with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and multimedia teams to create and optimize educational content for online delivery. You will be responsible for designing and developing comprehensive, interactive, and learner-centered courses that meet both academic standards and the needs of diverse learners.
This fully remote position allows you to work from anywhere while collaborating with a dynamic, dedicated team of professionals passionate about education and technology.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Design and Development
- Design, develop, and refine high-quality, learner-focused curricula that align with educational standards, learning objectives, and industry best practices.
- Create engaging and interactive learning activities, assessments, and instructional materials for diverse subjects and learner populations.
- Work with instructional designers to ensure the curriculum incorporates appropriate pedagogical strategies, technologies, and assessments.
- Adapt existing materials for online delivery, ensuring that they are accessible, interactive, and aligned with the goals of online learners.
2. Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to translate complex information into engaging, digestible, and pedagogically sound learning materials.
- Ensure course content is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with industry trends and academic standards.
- Regularly consult with SMEs to gather feedback and make iterative improvements to the curriculum.
3. Incorporation of Technology and Multimedia
- Integrate multimedia elements such as videos, quizzes, simulations, and interactive activities into the curriculum to enhance learner engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with multimedia developers and instructional technologists to ensure that all materials are technically sound and compatible with learning management systems (LMS).
- Leverage adaptive learning technologies to create personalized learning paths that cater to individual learners' unique needs and preferences.
4. Learner-Centered Design
- Employ user-centered design principles to create content that caters to diverse learning styles and educational backgrounds.
- Ensure all materials are accessible and compliant with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
- Conduct needs assessments and learner analysis to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with different learner demographics.
- Develop assessments that measure learning outcomes effectively, ensuring alignment with course objectives.
5. Quality Assurance and Evaluation
- Continuously assess the quality and effectiveness of the curriculum through testing, feedback collection, and data analysis.
- Monitor learner progress and feedback to identify improvement areas and iterate on existing content.
- Participate in course reviews and revisions to maintain high standards of quality and relevance.
6. Project Management
- Manage multiple curriculum design projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
- Use project management tools and software to track progress, communicate with team members, and stay organized.
- Ensure all projects remain within scope and budget while focusing on quality and learner outcomes.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in curriculum design and development, preferably in an online education or eLearning environment.
- Demonstrated experience in creating engaging and effective online learning materials and assessments.
- Strong understanding of instructional design models, including ADDIE, SAM, or similar.
- Experience working with subject matter experts to develop content for diverse subject areas.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle.
- Proficiency with multimedia tools and technologies such as Articulate 360, Captivate, or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with adaptive learning technologies and data-driven curriculum design.
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices for creating accessible online learning content.
- Familiarity with learning analytics and data analysis tools to track and assess learner performance.
