Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Online HR Risk Manager to lead and manage our organization’s human resources risk management efforts in a fully remote capacity. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that HR policies, practices, and procedures comply with applicable labor laws and mitigate potential risks to the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of HR risk management frameworks, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple teams across the organization.

As an Online HR Risk Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to human resources, including compliance, employee relations, workplace safety, data privacy, and ethical practices. You will collaborate closely with senior management, legal teams, HR, and department heads to ensure that all risk mitigation strategies align with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Risk Assessment and Management

  • Identify potential HR-related risks, including but not limited to, legal compliance, employment laws, employee relations, workplace safety, data privacy, and organizational ethics.
  • Conduct risk assessments to evaluate the potential impact of identified risks on the organization.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate HR risks, ensuring all practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Regularly review HR policies, procedures, and programs to identify areas of potential risk.

2. Compliance and Legal Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with relevant labor laws, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, including equal employment opportunity (EEO), wage and hour laws, and employee health and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the key liaison between the HR department and legal counsel to address HR-related legal issues, including employee disputes, discrimination claims, and other legal challenges.
  • Oversee and manage the development of policies and procedures that support a legally compliant and ethically responsible HR framework.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in labor laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.

3. Employee Relations

  • Serve as a resource for HR teams and management in handling complex employee relations issues, including investigations, grievances, and terminations.
  • Provide expert guidance on resolving employee disputes, minimizing legal exposure, and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Implement systems and processes to ensure employee concerns are addressed in a fair, timely, and confidential manner.
  • Promote and support a culture of transparency, fairness, and open communication across the organization.

4. Data Privacy and Security

  • Oversee the protection of employee data and ensure compliance with relevant data privacy laws, such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to implement robust data security measures that safeguard employee information.
  • Develop and maintain policies regarding employee data collection, storage, and sharing to reduce the risk of data breaches.
  • Ensure all HR systems and software meet the highest standards for data privacy and security.

5. Training and Development

  • Design and deliver training programs on HR risk management, compliance, and best practices to HR teams, managers, and employees.
  • Create educational materials that raise awareness of HR risks, ethical practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct workshops and seminars to help staff recognize potential risks and learn how to mitigate them effectively.

6. Audits and Reporting

  • Conduct regular audits of HR policies, practices, and systems to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare detailed reports on HR risk management activities, presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Track and analyze trends in HR-related risks, providing insights that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation of all risk management activities.

7. Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate closely with HR, legal, compliance, finance, and IT teams to ensure alignment in risk management efforts.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with senior leadership, presenting complex risk management concepts in a way that supports informed decision-making.
  • Foster strong working relationships with external stakeholders, including legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CRMP) is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR risk management, compliance, or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws, employment regulations, and HR compliance best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, make data-driven decisions, and implement effective solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Experience conducting internal audits, managing investigations, and handling sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, data privacy regulations, and cybersecurity as they relate to HR.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in risk management (e.g., RIMS-CRMP) or related fields.
  • Experience in a remote work environment, with the ability to manage remote teams and processes effectively.
  • Familiarity with international labor laws and regulations is a plus.
