Job Summary
We seek an experienced and detail-oriented Benefits Analyst to join our team in a fully remote capacity. The Benefits Analyst will critically analyze, administer, and manage our employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and other related offerings. This position requires a strong understanding of benefits administration, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for optimizing employee benefits to enhance engagement and well-being. The ideal candidate should be proactive, resourceful, and capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Benefits Program Administration
    • Administer and manage the day-to-day operations of all employee benefits programs, including health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and retirement plans (401(k), pension, etc.).
    • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, etc.) across all benefits offerings.
    • Handle benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations promptly and maintain accurate employee records.
    • I will serve as employees' primary point of contact regarding benefits inquiries, troubleshooting, and providing information about plan options.
    • Collaborate with external vendors and brokers to ensure proper implementation, renewals, and administration of benefits programs.
  2. Benefits Data Analysis
    • Conduct in-depth analysis of benefits utilization and costs, identifying trends and opportunities for optimizing benefit offerings.
    • Prepare regular reports on the performance of benefits programs, including metrics such as participation rates, cost trends, and employee feedback.
    • Utilize data to provide recommendations for improvements to benefits programs that align with both company goals and employee needs.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of current benefits programs and suggest enhancements to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
    • Monitor market trends and conduct benchmarking studies to ensure competitive and attractive benefits packages.
  3. Compliance and Reporting
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations concerning employee benefits programs.
    • Prepare and file required compliance reports, including 5500 forms and other relevant documentation.
    • Assist with audits related to benefits programs and ensure timely and accurate responses to auditors.
    • Keep current on changes to benefits laws and regulations, advising the HR team on necessary adjustments to policies and programs.
  4. Employee Communication and Education
    • Design and implement effective communication strategies to ensure employees are informed about their benefits options. This includes creating materials such as benefits guides, FAQs, and presentations.
    • During open enrollment periods, organize and facilitate benefits orientation sessions and webinars for new hires and existing employees.
    • Provide one-on-one counseling to employees on complex benefits questions or issues as needed.
    • Act as a liaison between employees and benefits providers, resolving claims issues or escalations promptly and professionally.
  5. Vendor and Provider Management
    • Build strong relationships with external vendors and benefits providers to ensure quality service delivery.
    • Negotiate with providers to obtain the best pricing and terms for benefits offerings.
    • Monitor vendor performance, address issues, and ensure they meet service-level agreements (SLAs).
  6. Continuous Improvement and Special Projects
    • Stay current with emerging employee benefits and wellness program trends and propose new initiatives to enhance employee experience.
    • Participate in special projects as needed, including mergers and acquisitions, system implementations, and benefit redesign efforts.
    • Support the HR team in researching and introducing voluntary benefits and wellness programs that can improve employee well-being.
    • Recommend cost-effective changes or enhancements to benefit plans based on analysis and market trends.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in benefits administration, human resources, or a related role, preferably in a remote work environment.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and state regulations governing employee benefits programs. In-depth knowledge of healthcare plans, 401(k), and other benefit plans.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and benefits management software. Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits information clearly and concisely.
  • Detail-oriented: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and accuracy. Must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Team-Oriented: Ability to work independently in a remote environment while contributing to a broader team effort. Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to help other team members as needed.
