Job Overview
As the Director of Cloud Engineering, you will oversee the cloud engineering function, including designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud infrastructure across the organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, IT, and operations, to ensure the cloud environment is robust, scalable, and secure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, leadership experience, and the ability to create a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership to the cloud engineering team, guiding cloud strategy, technology adoption, and engineering practices. You will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of cloud infrastructure and implementing solutions that meet business needs while focusing on operational excellence and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, deployment, and management of the organization's cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Drive the organization's cloud engineering strategy, ensuring aligned business goals and objectives.
• Oversee cloud architecture, ensuring best practices in cloud security, availability, and scalability.
• Lead cloud migration efforts, ensuring the successful transition of applications, systems, and data from on-premises environments to the cloud.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and design cloud solutions that align with those needs.
• Manage the cloud engineering team, providing mentorship, coaching, and career development opportunities for team members.
• Establish cloud governance policies and best practices, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
• Foster a culture of innovation within the cloud engineering team, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and practices that improve efficiency and performance.
• Develop and manage cloud budgets, optimize cloud spend, and provide cost analysis and forecasting.
• Oversee cloud security initiatives, ensuring appropriate security controls are implemented to protect the cloud environment.
• Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices to streamline cloud operations and reduce manual processes.
• Collaborate with DevOps and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between cloud infrastructure and application development.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to provide strategic recommendations for the organization's cloud roadmap.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
• 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure management, or related roles.
• Proven experience in leading cloud engineering teams and managing large-scale cloud infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with cloud architecture design, implementation, and maintenance, focusing on security, scalability, and performance.
• Proficiency in automation tools and technologies, such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and other Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of cloud security principles, compliance, and best practices.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment, driving projects to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications include AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud architecture.
• Familiarity with serverless computing, microservices, and cloud-native development.
• Experience in DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, business continuity, and cloud backup solutions.
