Job Summary:
As a Remote Energy and Utilities IT Consultant, you will work closely with clients to design, implement, and optimize technology solutions that address the unique challenges faced by the energy and utilities industry. You will leverage your expertise to evaluate IT needs, develop customized solutions, and provide strategic guidance to enhance operations, reduce costs, and improve service delivery. Your role will involve collaborating with stakeholders, understanding their business needs, and helping them navigate the complex landscape of energy and utility technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technology Assessment and Strategy Development:
- Assess the IT needs of clients in the energy and utilities sector, understanding their challenges, business objectives, and operational requirements.
- Develop comprehensive IT strategies aligning with the client's business goals, optimizing technology infrastructure, reducing costs, and increasing operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for digital transformation and innovation, recommending solutions that improve the reliability and sustainability of energy and utility services.
- Work with stakeholders to create roadmaps for technology implementation, ensuring a precise alignment between IT initiatives and business priorities.
- Solution Design and Implementation:
- Design and implement technology solutions, including innovative grid solutions, energy management systems, and advanced metering infrastructure that address the specific needs of energy and utility companies.
- Collaborate with IT teams, developers, and solution architects to deliver customized solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of energy distribution and utility operations.

- Provide technical leadership during project implementation, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Business Process Optimization:
- Analyze existing business processes within the energy and utilities sector to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement process optimization strategies, leveraging technology to streamline workflows, reduce operational costs, and improve service delivery.
- Work with stakeholders to define KPIs and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of IT solutions and track the progress of technology initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for automation and recommend solutions to optimize repetitive processes, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Engage with stakeholders, including business leaders, IT teams, and external vendors, to ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and presentations to gather input, provide updates, and ensure alignment between IT solutions and business needs.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, offering insights and recommendations to help clients navigate technology challenges and make informed decisions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Industry Expertise and Best Practices:
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in the energy and utilities sector.
- Provide clients with thought leadership and strategic guidance on industry standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
- Develop whitepapers, case studies, and other thought leadership materials to share insights and best practices with clients and the industry.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, sharing your expertise to build a strong and capable consulting team.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in IT processes, tools, and methodologies, focusing on enhancing client value.
- Provide recommendations for adopting new technologies, tools, and approaches that can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of energy and utility operations.
- Foster a continuous learning and improvement culture, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in IT consulting, focusing on the energy and utilities sector.
- Strong understanding of energy and utility operations, including distribution, transmission, energy management, and metering.
- Experience with technology solutions for the energy and utilities industry, such as smart grids, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), energy management systems (EMS), and SCADA systems.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and optimizing IT solutions to meet business needs, focusing on efficiency and cost reduction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and translate technical concepts into business terms.
- Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently, manage remote work effectively, and collaborate with cross-functional teams virtually.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and their application in the energy and utilities sector.
- Knowledge of data analytics, IoT (Internet of Things), and AI-driven solutions to optimize energy operations and enhance service delivery.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards and industry-specific regulations for energy and utilities.
- Experience in reengineering, business process management (BPM), and workflow optimization within the energy and utilities industry.
- PMP (Project Management Professional), TOGAF, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
