About the Role

Purpose and Impact

This role calls for someone who understands the nuances of residential loan files, knows the ins and outs of borrower documentation, and thrives on making tough calls with clarity and confidence. You’ll evaluate everything from credit reports to collateral assessments, ensuring every file meets investor, agency, and internal compliance standards.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze mortgage loan documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Underwrite conventional, FHA, VA, or USDA mortgage files per guidelines
  • Validate borrower income, employment, assets, liabilities, and creditworthiness
  • Identify red flags and potential fraud indicators
  • Communicate effectively with processors and loan officers for missing or unclear items.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, updates, and underwriting tools
  • Deliver decisions within established turnaround times
  • Update internal systems with status, decisions, and rationale

  • Remote document management tools (e.g., DocuSign, Box)

What Makes You a Great Fit

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of mortgage underwriting experience
  • In-depth knowledge of agency guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac)
  • Proficient in AUS systems and modern LOS platforms
  • Strong judgment and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote setting

Bonus Points For

  • DE/SAR/LAPP Certification
  • Experience with non-QM or jumbo loan files
