Remote Payroll Technician

Position Overview: We seek a meticulous and organized Remote Payroll Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll processes and compliance requirements and excellent analytical and communication skills. This role involves managing end-to-end employee payroll processing across various locations, ensuring accurate and timely wage payments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing:
- Administer and process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for a diverse workforce.
- Verify and input employee timekeeping data, including hours worked, overtime, and leave.
- Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments.
- Prepare and distribute paychecks and direct deposit statements to employees.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing by adhering to payroll schedules and deadlines.
- Data Management:
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including personal information, pay rates, and tax withholding details.
- Review and reconcile payroll reports to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Generate and analyze payroll reports for management review, including reports on wages, deductions, and taxes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
- Compliance and Record-Keeping:
- Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and labor laws to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and file required payroll tax documents and reports, including W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly tax filings.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information and adhere to data protection regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll processes to identify and rectify discrepancies or compliance issues.
- Employee Support:
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters, including paychecks, deductions, and tax withholdings.
- Assist with resolving payroll-related issues and discrepancies.
- Assist with the onboarding process for new hires, including setting up payroll accounts and verifying documentation.
- Educate employees on payroll policies and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance.
- System Management:
- Utilize payroll software and systems to process payroll and generate reports.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to payroll processing.
- Collaborate with IT and software vendors to enhance payroll system functionality and performance.
- Implement best practices for payroll data entry and system usage to increase efficiency.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with Human Resources and Finance teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve payroll-related issues and improve processes.
- Communicate effectively with employees and management regarding payroll updates, changes, and policies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associateโs degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. Bachelorโs degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a related field. Experience with payroll software and systems is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and tax laws.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
- Practical communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
