Key Responsibilities
Underwriting and Loan Evaluation
- Analyze borrower financial data to assess risk and ensure the loan meets VA criteria.
- Scrutinize credit reports, income statements, tax returns, and bank statements.
- Evaluate property appraisals for accuracy and compliance with VA valuation standards.
- Utilize tools like Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) to aid in loan decisions.
- Recommend loan conditions, suspensions, or denials with a well-supported rationale.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure full adherence to VA guidelines, investor requirements, and internal policies.
- Monitor documentation for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Keep thorough digital records of decisions, conditions, and communications.
- Maintain updated knowledge of changing regulatory landscapes and VA bulletins.
- Participate in internal audits and respond swiftly to any corrective actions required.

Education and Experience

- 3+ years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting, including 1+ years with VA loans.

- DE or SAR credential is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Ongoing education or VA continuing education units (CEUs) are a plus.
