Position Overview
We seek a highly organized and detail-oriented Virtual Inventory Accountant to oversee the accounting, analysis, and reporting of inventory-related activities for our client's business operations. The Virtual Inventory Accountant will support the company's financial health by managing inventory, optimizing the process, reducing discrepancies, and providing timely and insightful reports. Key Responsibilities

  1. Inventory Accounting and Management
    • Maintain and update inventory records to ensure accurate information is reflected in the accounting system.
    • Track and record inventory purchases, returns, and adjustments, reconciling data with the company's financial system.
    • Ensure inventory accounting complies with company standards, industry regulations, and accepted accounting principles.
  2. Inventory Analysis and Reporting
    • Prepare regular inventory reports highlighting valuation, turnover rates, and inventory levels.
    • Analyze inventory discrepancies, identify patterns, and collaborate with operations teams to resolve issues.
    • Monitor inventory variances and assist in developing corrective measures to reduce discrepancies.
    • Provide insights and recommendations on improving inventory turnover and minimizing excess or obsolete inventory.
  3. Reconciliation
    • Conduct periodic inventory reconciliations to match physical inventory counts to the data recorded in accounting systems.
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between physical inventory and records in collaboration with internal teams.
  4. Internal Controls and Process Improvement
    • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate inventory transactions are recorded and the integrity of financial data is preserved.
    • Review current inventory processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Assist in implementing best practices related to inventory control and valuation and contribute to optimizing inventory management software and tools.
  5. Financial Collaboration
    • Work closely with other departments, such as purchasing, supply chain, and finance, to ensure alignment in inventory planning, purchasing, and tracking activities.
    • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, providing data on inventory valuation and adjustments to the finance team.
    • Collaborate with auditors and provide the required information related to inventory during audits.
  6. Cost Accounting
    • Calculate inventory costs, including cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory write-offs, and other related expenses.
    • Monitor price changes, product costs, and associated variances to maintain accurate financial records.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in inventory accounting or a similar role, preferably in a virtual or remote setting.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP) and Microsoft Excel for managing large datasets and performing reconciliations.
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and inventory management methodologies.
